Have
you ever wondered what actually happens to the waste that is
collected from your sites. Well below you may find your answers.
Although the industry is being continuously encouraged to provide
better alternatives to deal with our waste through incentives
and new legislation.
For example
a recent change in legislation has seen a large shift in how
contaminated rags are disposed off . Until recently this waste
was expected to be land filled as this was the best viable
economical option to deal with the vast quantities of contaminated
rags
But with the Environment Agency’s removal of the derogation
to allow wastes to be land filled above the WAC (Waste acceptance
criteria). Industry had to find new outlets or face possible
cost increases of £900 per tonne.

Although
prices have increased these have been minimised as the industry
adapts new processes to deal with the waste such as a new
laundering service, which can wash the oily residue and other
contaminants out of the rags so that they can be brought back
onto the market to be reused.
