IS MY WASTE HAZARDOUS?
   
  The flowchart below shows the steps involved in finding out if waste is hazardous or not.

“Directive Waste” refers to European legislation called the Waste Framework Directive. If waste is not a Directive Waste , THE HWR do not apply to it, so such wastes cannot be hazardous wastes. Only the following waste are not Directive Wastes : Radioactive waste, waste resulting ... quarries, animal carcasses and other agricultural waste specified. Waste waters, with the exception of waste in liquid form, decommissioned explosives.

   
     
 
“SoS” stands for the Secretary of State.

“LoWR” Stands for The List of Waste Regulations commonly referred to as the European Waste Catalogue.
