More
than 87 % of used tyres are now diverted from landfill in Europe
according to new figures published for 2006 by ETRMA (European
Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association).
The 87% average tyre recovery rate for Europe was an increase
of 3% compared to 2005. This was helped by the Landfill Directive
which banned the disposal of tyres into landfill sites from July
2006. |

The
Uk’s 93 % recovery rate for tyres ranked behind the
likes of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany,
Hungary , Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden and Norway,
all of who claimed a 100% diversion of tyres from landfill
in 2006.
However
in tonnage of tyres being recycled, the UK surpassed all
other European Countries as it recycled 254,000 tonnes of
used tyres in 2006 (This compared to the 189,000 tonnes
recycled in Germany and 189,000 tonnes in France) with Credential
Automotive being responsible for appoxiametly 75,000 tonnes
of disposal, which if taken as a whole of the UK arising’s
of 486,000 tonnes equates to an impressive 15% of all waste
tyres arisings in the UK for 2006.
