Pre-Treatment Update

In previous newsletters Credential AWS have brought to your attention the impending legislation surrounding pre-treatment of waste at business premises.

As of 30th October 2007 these regulations became the law. In simple terms this means that as a commercial premises your general waste contractor must ensure that the waste collected has been pre-treated before it is taken to landfill.

How Does This Legislation Affect Your Business

Compliance with pre-treatment regulations is as simple as segregating a
single waste stream, and it could actually save you money if it is diverted away from landfill.

As part of the automotive industry it can be assumed that a large proportion of your waste is made up of packaging i.e. cardboard and plastic.

All companies large or small must adhere
to the Waste Electrical and
Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations.

All companies must provide environmentally sound disposal of the electronic equipment they use, in line with the WEEE Regulations. The government has published guidelines for the sellers and users of electrical and electronic goods on how to stay on the right side of new laws regarding their disposal. The guidelines are designed to help clarify Europe's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations.

Did you know that by 2012 the UK will be legally required to recycle 25% of its waste portable batteries?

Currently less than 3% of these batteries are being recycled.

Credential AWS and G&P Batteries are offering the ‘BattBox’ to all Credential AWS customers. ‘BattBox’ is a simple and cost-effective service for environmentally responsible companies to recycle waste portable batteries.
